About Names Not Numbers
Numbers
When talking about the problems in the world, there are a lot of numbers. Did you know...
- There are more than 25 million orphans in India?
- The life expectancy of a baby born today in South Africa is just 50 years old?
- In some areas, 70% of the trained African doctors leave to work in the West?
These numbers are from Unicef and Human Resources for Health, and there are plenty more like them. However, we think that numbers are difficult to get a grasp on, easy to manipulate and well... not very personal.
Names
Names, on the other hand, are very different:
This is Gift. He was abandoned in a phone box when he was a baby. He didn't even have a name; no one wanted anything to do with him.
Happily for him, there were some people that did care. Hope House Orphanage, took him in, loved him, fed him and named him - he is a gift from God.
It would be easy just to think of him as a number - after all, there are two and a half million other orphans in South Africa - but we think that he deserves a name; and much more.
Names Not Numbers
That's why we are called Names Not Numbers; because individuals matter. We are a charitable organisation, and we aim to help those in the third world. Our three key objectives are below:
- To raise awareness of several other charitable organisations, and fund raise together for these causes.
- To increase efficiency of giving through Gift Aid
- To show the love of Christ to the poor and needy, throughout the world.
